Prayer

August 22nd, 2010

This year’s program in religion will emphasize the importance and practice of prayer. On this day and age of video games, TV and internet, we seldom see ourselves communicating with God (in a prayerful manner). Let’s bring back our tradition of praying to God the way it should be; reverent and prayerful, personal yet with social relevance, constant and caring.

We will make use of the common prayers, the Psalms, Bible passages and  formulated or personal prayers to help ourselves become closer to God.  One of the requirements that I will asking the classes this year is to make their own prayer table at home; a reminder that they have to pray before going to bed.

I know that it gets harder sometimes to pray. (That even while praying, there are temptations that distract us from focusing ourselves). You are not the only one. It happens to me, too. But whenever that happens, I always remind myself of what St. Vincent de Paul told the priest who asked him what to do whenever he can’t pray, he said, “Pray more.”

This year, let us study hard, but pray harder!

Unconditional Challenge

August 15th, 2010

Welcome to the school year 2010-2011. It’s been heartwarming to see all of you ready for the new challenges of this  year. Although, some of our former schoolmates have gone to different schools, yet we are blessed with new members who are excited enough to be with us this year.

The calling for us to be follow Christ in our daily lives comes very relevant when we reflect on  Mary’s response when she was asked to be the mother of Jesus. Her unconditional response should be an inspiration to us to seek challenges that are beneficial for everyone. It was a complete denial of oneself whichwas rewarded with something far more uncomprehensible to some during those days; the gift of assumption.

As christians, we too are challenged by Jesus to be “pefect as His Father is perfect.” Hard but realizable as exemplified by Mary.
